It is with great excitement that I post my first blog. Over the past years I have done many videos that have been viewed quite often but some people asked about a different method to communicate and share information. So here it is the Steven Schnoll, Schnoll Media Consulting blog.
The timing is perfect since I am researching how millennials (18-34 year old’s) are viewing print. I hear conflicting information about how millennials view the print medium. I know my millennial family members no longer receive any invoices via paper or pay bills with a check. While I see some book and magazine reading, I see more of them using their smart phones or iPads for obtaining their content. When it comes to marketing the question is does print resonate better than social media, email or mobile? But all this is merely observational. I have gone online to see what studies have been done and find most research has been done by print related organizations who I believe have a biased opinion. I want some neutral real data. I feel there are three important components to this research.
- Do millennials view the print industry a viable employment option for their future?
- Do millennials view direct mail as a viable medium for being educated to new product or sales opportunities?
- I see many magazine and book publishers repositioning away from an ink on paper model is this the future?
The bottom line for me, is the print media viable for the millennial generation and if yes what are the best methods to reach these people and if no what can be done to reinvigorate this industry in their eyes.I would enjoy hearing from millennials.
